Dragstalgia is a major event that brings some of the Amercian class to Santa Pod. And one of the cars that stood out to me the most was, of course, a Camaro.

Car: Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Year: 1972

Where: Dragstalgia, Santa Pod

When: 14/07/2019

Owner: Brian S

This has got to be one of the cleanest 2nd gen Camaro I have spotted in the UK. The vivid blue paint made the classic pop in comparison to the usual grey skies of England. But even faced with the dismal weather, Brian was able to make his car sparkle. Just look how clean the American Racing wheels are!

1972 was a tough year for GM, and the Camaro suffered some setbacks... Such as the UAW Strike at an assembly plant (ultimately leading to c.1100 Camaros being scrapped), competition bringing out new sporty cars and increasing pressure on the corporation to meet 1973 safety, emissions and fuel economy standards . Luckily GM knew that there were many loyal followers to the Camaro, and did not give up on the model. However GM only produced about 2500 Z28s in 1972, which is the lowest production since 1967 and it was the last year the Camaro was offered a big block factory.

That fiercely loyal following to the Camaro kept it alive for another 47 years, and seeing how well looked after this one is, I would say the passion is still around.
