"Gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road" - Alan Jackson

Model: Mercury Montclair Convertible

Year: 1955

Where: Ace Cafe, Orlando

When: 01/01/2019

As Alan Jackson had sung in Mercury Blues... "Lord I'm crazy 'bout a mercury".

Mercurys, for the first 15 years, were mostly a Ford-based, medium priced car with a longer wheelbase. The 1955 model however, was given its own personality.

The 1955 Mercury was longer, lower and wider than the previous years, and a new top-line series called the Montclair was introduced. The Montclair was also Mercurys only convertible, because of this option sales increased by a whopping 27% from '54. Back from 1954 was Mercury's first overhead-valve V-8, newly enlarged to 292 cubic inches which produced 198 horsepower with standard dual exhausts in the Montclairs.

The 1955 was the first Mercury to have factory A/C, which might not be needed in a convertible.
